Teacher of the Year Nominations 2023-2024

Dear Griswold Public Schools Community:

It is with excitement and pride that we begin the process of selecting our Griswold Public Schools Teacher of the Year. The GPS Program recognizes and honors teacher excellence. It does not attempt to select the “best” teacher; rather, to identify, from among many outstanding teachers, one teacher to serve as a visible and vocal representative of what is best in the profession. The program celebrates excellence in teaching by recognizing teachers who have inspired a love for learning in their students and who have distinguished themselves in the profession.

Please consider nominating one of our many outstanding educators. To be eligible to move on to the Connecticut State Teacher of the Year, the Griswold Public Schools Teacher of the Year must be a teacher in grades Pre-K-12, hold a valid teaching certificate, and spend 51% or more of their time in the classroom. All nominations will be accepted, however, only those candidates meeting this criteria will be eligible to move forward to the CT Teacher of the Year.

The process for the Griswold Public Schools candidate participating in the Connecticut Teacher of the Year is rigorous. The Connecticut Teacher of the Year Program selects one teacher and three CT state finalists to serve as teacher-ambassadors for public education. They are appointed to various education advisory committees and become consultants to the Commissioner of Education. They present workshops; speak at education conferences and meetings; address student, civic, college and university, and governmental groups; and operate special programs in accordance with their interests and expertise. The Connecticut Teacher of the Year also represents the state at the national level—participating in national educational forums, National Teacher of the Year Program planning and networking sessions, and U.S. Department of Education meetings.

Griswold Public Schools is now accepting nominations for Griswold’s Teacher of the Year. Nominations are to be completed using this Google Form.  Please complete the Google Form online no later than Friday, April 26, 2024.

Sincerely,

Sean P. McKenna,

Superintendent of Schools
