CREW

Welcome to Griswold Middle School’s Advisory Program, CREW, where a tradition of character education continues because we are invested in building a strong community. With a commitment to nurturing the holistic development of our students, we've woven the GMS Habits: Caring, Respectful Empowered Wolverines, CREW, into the fabric of our advisory program, core and exploratory classes.

GMS recognizes that we have a responsibility of fostering academic excellence, as well as social and emotional learning in order to provide an excellent education. The CREW Committee, a collaborative effort comprising administrators, teachers, and support staff, meets regularly to address the evolving needs of our students. Together, we design lessons, including our Second Step program, that not only instill character virtues but also contribute to the growth of a tight-knit community.

GMS CREW places a significant emphasis on relationship-building. We celebrate the diverse talents each individual brings to our school, recognizing that by working together, we enrich our shared experience. While we understand that the middle school years can be challenging, our focus is to help foster the feeling of belonging by teaching communication, conflict resolution and advocacy skills.

CREWs meet weekly with their CREW Captain and the group stays together for four years. These sessions discuss various themes, and collaborative projects serve as a platform for meaningful engagement. Recent initiatives include The Wolverine Kindness Campaign, an idea born after hearing Ryan’s Story. Students in grades 5-8 are actively finding ways to connect and create space where everyone is welcome. Team building activities are always a hit. Grade levels compete in a fun environment where curiosity and communication drive the sessions.

Join us on this exciting journey as we continue to uphold the legacy of teaching to the whole child, embracing social and emotional learning as an integral part of the Griswold Middle School experience. Together, we shape futures and build a community that is immersed in caring, respect, and empowerment.
